Sun rises above Sanctuary of Truth

We get up before the sunrise and move…. to the balcony. This is how lazy people take sunrise pictures! But with the view of Sanctuary of Truth from your windows, it totally makes sense. (We also took some images from the beach…)

Wstajemy przed wschodem słońca i ruszamy…. na balkon. W ten sposób leniwi ludzie robią zdjęcia wschodu słońca! Ale z widokiem na Sanktuarium Prawdy z okna, to nawet ma sens. Kilka zdjec zrobiliśmy także z plaży.

Before we set off to visit the sanctuary, we stop for breakfast at our hotel and it is really pleasant. Now we are ready.

Zanim wyruszymy na zwiedzanie sanktuarium, zatrzymujemy się an (bardzoprzyjemne)śniadanie w naszym hotelu. Teraz już jesteśmy gotowi.

Golden Tulip

After another great breakfast, gym, and some lazy time at the swimming pool we bid our farewell to Conrad and took a Taxi to Pattaya. The first hotel we are staying at here is Golden Tulip Resort, chosen because of its vicinity to the Sanctuary of Truth. Actually, the sanctuary is well visible from the corner room we booked. Here is the first glance at our room before we head off for sunset and dinner at the Horizon.

Po kolejnym wspaniałym śniadaniu, siłowni i lenistwie na basenie pożegnaliśmy się z Conradem i wzięliśmy taksówkę do Pattayi. Pierwszym hotelem, w którym się tu zatrzymaliśmy, jest Golden Tulip Resort, wybrany ze względu na swoje polożenie niedaleko od Sanktuarium Prawdy. Sanktuarium jest zresztą dobrze widoczne z zarezerwowanego przez nas narożnego pokoju. Oto pierwszy rzut oka na nasz pokój, zanim wyruszymy na zachód słońca i kolację w Horizon.

Loha Prasat

After breakfast, we are ready to explore Bangkok some more. We grab a taxi and go to Wat Ratchanatdaram, built in the 1840s for Rama III.

The taxi leaves us at the small beautiful plaza before the temple, with the Royal Reception Pavilion Maha Chetsadabodin and a bronze statue of King Rama III. Colourful flowers make the view of Loha Prasat very attractive. From here we go to the temple grounds.

Po śniadaniu jesteśmy gotowi na dalsze zwiedzanie Bangkoku. Łapiemy taksówkę i jedziemy do Wat Ratchanatdaram, zbudowanego w latach 40stych. XIX wieku dla Ramy III.

Taksówka zostawia nas na małym, ładnym placu przed świątynią, na którym znajduje się także pawilon Maha Chetsadabodin i brązowy posąg króla Ramy III. Kolorowe kwiaty sprawiają, że widok na Loha Prasat jest stąd bardzo atrakcyjny. Dalej udajemy się na teren świątyni.

Loha Prasat was inspired by the metal temples of Sri Lanka and India. Thus, the name of the building, which means Metal Palace. There are 37 spires (today golden, they used to be black before) representing 37 virtues leading to enlightenment. The bottom level has 24 spires, the middle one 12, and the top level has 1.

We read in quite a few places that Loha Prasat is now believed to be the only remaining religious structure of this style still standing today and was added to the UNESCO heritage list in 2005.

Inspiracją dla budowy Loha Prasat były metalowe świątynie Sri Lanki i Indii. Stąd jej nazwa, która można przetłumaczyć jako Metalowy Pałac. Posiada on 37 iglic (dziś złote, wcześniej były czarne) reprezentujących 37 cnót prowadzących do oświecenia. Dolny poziom ma 24 iglice, środkowy 12, a górny 1. Czytamy w wielu miejscach, że Loha Prasat jest obecnie uważana za jedyną zachowaną budowlę religijną tego stylu na świecie. Została ona wpisana na listę dziedzictwa UNESCO w 2005 roku.

The interior is surprisingly simple, but it is cool here and nearly no people inside so we spend quite a few hours visiting every level, recording some reels and enjoying great views of Bangkok and the touch of cold floor on our bare feet.

Wnętrze jest zaskakująco proste, ale jest chłodno i prawie nikogo nie ma w środku oprócz nas, więc spędzamy kilka godzin zwiedzając każdy poziom, nagrywając kilka instagramowych rolek i ciesząc oczy wspaniałymi widokami na Bangkok oraz dotykiem zimnej podłogi na bosych stopach.

There is a wooden round staircase that leads up and you can go to the very top, to have access to 360 degrees views of the city. We can see the Golden Mount from here (which actually is located quite close to Loha Prasat), as well as Rattanakosin. A small shrine at the top supposedly contains a relic of the Buddha.

Drewniane spiralne schody prowadzą na górę i można wejść na sam szczyt świątyni, aby mieć dostęp do 360-stopnioweej poanoramy na miasto. Możemy stąd zobaczyć Golden Mount (który faktycznie znajduje się dość blisko Loha Prasat), a także Rattanakosin. Mała kapliczka na szczycie ma  zawierać relikwię Buddy.

At each level we go around, visiting simple cloisters and wandering through a maze of narrow corridors.

Na każdym poziomie obchodzimy budynek dookoła, odwiedzając proste krużganki i wędrując po labiryncie wąskich korytarzy.

Then we also pay a visit to the main bot, which is perhaps not as remarkable, although I really like paintings at the door niches.

Następnie odwiedzamy też religijnie najważniejszy budynek świątyni, który może nie jest aż tak niezwykły, ale ma bardzo ładne freski we wnękach drzwiowych.

After a few hours of walking and recording, we are thirsty so we sit in the café garden in the temple area and demolish a few slushies before we go out. Outside the temple, we also find a good place for Golden Mount night photography, noted down for the next time. It is now midday and the sun is relentless so it is time to take a tuk-tuk and go back to the hotel to rest at the swimming pool before we head for (today's fancy) dinner.

Po kilku godzinach chodzenia i nagrywania jesteśmy wysuszeni na wiór, więc przed wyjściem siedzimy w kawiarnianym ogródku na terenie świątyni i wciągamy kilka szklanek limonkowego slushi. Po wyjściu ze świątyni znajdujemy jeszcze dobre miejsce na nocne fotografowanie Golden Mount, odnotowane na kolejną wizytę w Bangkoku.

A tymczasem jest  już południe i słońce praży nieubłaganie, więc czas wziąć tuk-tuka i wrócić do hotelu, by odpocząć przy basenie, zanim wyruszymy na (dzisiejszą fantazyjną) kolację.

Sunrise

We get up early today and get to the park before sunrise. Cicadas make crazy noise; the temperature is perfect (assuming you like hot weather), and the colours are beautiful. We take some pictures, test new equipment, and walk back to the hotel. Bonus: 12 000 steps ticked off before breakfast.

Wstajemy dziś wcześnie i docieramy do parku przed wschodem słońca. Cykady są szokująco głośne; temperatura jest idealna (zakładając, że ktoś lubi lato), a kolory piękne. Robimy zdjęcia, testujemy nowy sprzęt fotograficzny i wracamy do hotelu. Bonus: 12 000 kroków jeszcze przed śniadaniem.

City lights on the water

After the swimming pool and the gym (I will make an entry about it tomorrow), we go to the park again. It is still hot like the inside of the oven, but the trees around the skywalk are protecting us somewhat from the scorching sun. Somewhat. And we see a Nessie again J

As the sun goes down, the colours appear and it is quite beautiful in the park. Marcin says at some point in a bit as if a unicorn vomited a rainbow, but these intense pastels are to my liking.

Po basenie i siłowni (wpis o tym jutro) znowu udajemy się do parku. Nadal jest gorąco jak w piekarniku, ale drzewa wokół drogi na rampie nieco nas chronią przed palącym słońcem. Nieco. I znowu widzimy Nessie J

Kiedy słońce chyli się ku horyzontowi, w parku z każdej strony wypełzaja kolory. Marcin, apoteoza romantyzmu, mówi w pewnym momencie, ze jest tak, jakby jednorożec właśnie rzygnął tęczą, ale te intensywne pastele mi się bardzo podobają.

Then it becomes dark and the lights of sky scrapper reflect in the lake and the temperature drops a little – it is still very warm but pleasant.

Potem robi się ciemno, światła wiezowcow zaczynają odbijać się w jeziorze i temperatura trochę spada – nadal jest bardzo ciepło, ale bardzo przyjemnie. Optymalna temperatura dla mnie.

We walk back to the hotel but this time we go below the skywalk, as the streets are now full of people selling street food or having their dinner and chatting around and it is nice to be a part of this commotion.  (the pictures below are from iPhone, thus the lower quality).

Wracamy pomału do hotelu, ale tym razem schodzimy pod rampę, gdyż ulice są teraz pełne ludzi sprzedających jedzenie lub jedzących obiad, albo zwyczajnie odpoczywających po pracy przy pogawędce z sąsiadami, i miło jest być częścią tego zamieszania. (zdjecia ponizej są z telefonu, stąd słaba jakość)
