Spirited Away

Another studio Ghibli’s anime, Oscar-winning Spirited Away, created by the legendary Hayao Miyazaki, has been reimagined for the stage. Directed by John Caird (known for Les Miserables), this breath-taking production is performed in Japanese (but with subtitles,) and accompanied by a live orchestra. Each night, the Coliseum fills to the brim, leaving audiences in awe.

Kolejna anmiacja studia Ghibli, nagrodzone Oscarem Spirited Away autorstwa legendarnego Hayao Miyazaki, zostało przystosowane do potrzeb teatralnej sceny. Reżyserem tej fantastycznej produkcji jest John Caird (znany z Les Miserables), a akompaniuje je orkiestra na żywo. Każdej nocy Londyński teatr Coliseum wypełnia się po brzegi, zabierając publiczność w prawdziwie magiczną podróż.

The visuals are stunning, and the performance is exceptional. If you haven't seen the film yet (I highly recommend watching it ASAP!), Spirited Away tells the story of Chihiro, a young girl who accidentally enters a world of spirits. Her parents are transformed into pigs, and Chihiro must navigate this enchanting but perilous realm, ruled by the sorceress Yubaba, to save her parents and find a way back to the human world. I’ll leave the plot here, to not spoil your fun.

Efekty wizualne są oszałamiające, a gra aktorska też znakomita. Jeśli jeszcze nie widzieliście filmu (gorąco polecam obejrzeć go jak najszybciej!), Spirited Away opowiada historię Chihiro, dziewczynki, która przypadkowo trafia do świata duchów. Jej rodzice zostają zamienieni w świnie, a Chihiro ich uratować i znaleźć drogę powrotną do świata ludzi. Więcej fabuły nie zdradzę, aby nie zepsuć wam zabawy.

In March, we attended another Studio Ghibli production—My Neighbor Totoro (check out my March blog entry for that!). It's hard not to compare the two, and while both are incredible, I have to give a slight edge to Totoro. There’s just something magical about Jim Henson's puppets and the unique storytelling in Totoro. That said, Spirited Away was still absolutely fantastic! My favorite characters were No Face and Haku, and my favourite scene was the one inside the train – so powerfully imagined.

W marcu obejrzeliśmy inną produkcję Studio Ghibli — My Neighbor Totoro (sprawdźcie wpis na blogu z marca!). Trudno nie porównywać tych dwóch przedstawien ze sobą i chociaż obydwa są niesamowite, niewielką przewagę ma wg mnie Totoro. Jest coś absolutnie magicznego w marionetkach Jima Hensona i wyjątkowej narracji Totoro. Mimo to, Spirited Away było absolutnie fantastyczne! Moimi ulubionymi postaciami byli No Face i Haku, a moją ulubioną sceną była ta w pociągu — niby prosta ale najbardziej kopiąca po nerkach.

As is typical, recording was not allowed during the performance, so this entry includes a few mobile snaps from before and after the show, as well as glimpses from the program. Plus, I cannot resist sharing a photo of the sushi we enjoyed during our pre-show lunch in the theatre.

Jak zwykle, nagrywanie nie było dozwolone podczas występu, więc ten wpis zawiera kilka zdjęć telefonem przed i po pokazie, a także fragmenty programu. Plus sushi, które jedliśmy podczas naszego lunchu w teatrze.

Nomad

For the dinner tonight we chose one of the most popular places in Marrakesh, Nomad. It is a modern Moroccan restaurant and rooftop bar, set over four floors in a building that used to be an old carpet store. Located on Rahba Kedima Spice Square in the heart of Medina, it boasts two rooftop terraces, offering views over the old town rooftops and all the way to the Atlas Mountains.

Na dzisiejszą kolację wybraliśmy jedno z najpopularniejszych miejsc w Marakeszu - Nomad. Jest to nowoczesna marokańska restauracja zajmująca cztery piętra budynku, który kiedyś był sklepem z dywanami. Usytuowany przy placu przypraw Rahba Kedima w samym sercu Medyny, Nomad oferuje dwa tarasy na dachu, z których roztaczają się widoki na dachy Starego Miasta i góry Atlas daleko w tle.

Vibrant and lively, Nomad offers traditional local cuisine and international dishes with a Moroccan twist, all made with fresh and local products. It is neither very cheap nor crazily expensive. Our choice tonight was a plate of mezze, calamari with aubergine, and chicken breast with white beans and mushrooms.

Nomad oferuje tradycyjne dania kuchni lokalnej i dania kuchni międzynarodowej ale z marokańskim akcentem, wszystkie przyrządzane ze świeżych i lokalnych produktów. Nie jest ani bardzo tani, ani szalenie drogi. Nasz dzisiejszy wybór padł na półmisek mezze, kalmary z bakłażanem i piersi kurczaka z białą fasolą i grzybami.

We started our meal when sun was relatively low and finished well after sunset. It was a very eventful day, and we cannot be more ready for bed.

Zaczęliśmy posiłek, gdy słońce było stosunkowo nisko, a zakończyliśmy sporo po jego zachodzie słońca. To był bardzo pełen wrażeń dzień i nie możemy być bardziej gotowi do snu, niż jesteśmy.

Namsan (남산)

As the day winds down, we arrive at Namsan, or if you prefer South Mountain, where the 270-meter-high peak offers a serene escape from the city center. Here, the Namsan Seoul Tower has stood tall for over 40 years, proudly marking its place as one of Korea's iconic landmarks. The mountain is enveloped by Namsan Park, a lovely public space cared for by the city, which treats visitors to sweeping views of Seoul.

We decided to take the cable car to the summit, and were greeted by a breathtaking sunset that bathed the city in vibrant hues of orange and red.

Gdy dzień pomału dobiega końca, docieramy do Namsan, co przetłumaczyć można jako Południowa Góra. Tu, na 270-metrowym szczycie od ponad 40 lat króluje wieża Namsan Seoul Tower, jedno z najpopularniejszych miejsc wśród i turystów i mieszkańców Seulu. Namsan oferuje bowiem odwiedzającym rozległe widoki na miasto.

Postanowiliśmy wjechać na szczyt kolejką linową i zostaliśmy tu obejrzeć zachód słońca, który skąpał miasto w żywych odcieniach pomarańczy i czerwieni.

City lights on the water

After the swimming pool and the gym (I will make an entry about it tomorrow), we go to the park again. It is still hot like the inside of the oven, but the trees around the skywalk are protecting us somewhat from the scorching sun. Somewhat. And we see a Nessie again J

As the sun goes down, the colours appear and it is quite beautiful in the park. Marcin says at some point in a bit as if a unicorn vomited a rainbow, but these intense pastels are to my liking.

Po basenie i siłowni (wpis o tym jutro) znowu udajemy się do parku. Nadal jest gorąco jak w piekarniku, ale drzewa wokół drogi na rampie nieco nas chronią przed palącym słońcem. Nieco. I znowu widzimy Nessie J

Kiedy słońce chyli się ku horyzontowi, w parku z każdej strony wypełzaja kolory. Marcin, apoteoza romantyzmu, mówi w pewnym momencie, ze jest tak, jakby jednorożec właśnie rzygnął tęczą, ale te intensywne pastele mi się bardzo podobają.

Then it becomes dark and the lights of sky scrapper reflect in the lake and the temperature drops a little – it is still very warm but pleasant.

Potem robi się ciemno, światła wiezowcow zaczynają odbijać się w jeziorze i temperatura trochę spada – nadal jest bardzo ciepło, ale bardzo przyjemnie. Optymalna temperatura dla mnie.

We walk back to the hotel but this time we go below the skywalk, as the streets are now full of people selling street food or having their dinner and chatting around and it is nice to be a part of this commotion.  (the pictures below are from iPhone, thus the lower quality).

Wracamy pomału do hotelu, ale tym razem schodzimy pod rampę, gdyż ulice są teraz pełne ludzi sprzedających jedzenie lub jedzących obiad, albo zwyczajnie odpoczywających po pracy przy pogawędce z sąsiadami, i miło jest być częścią tego zamieszania. (zdjecia ponizej są z telefonu, stąd słaba jakość)

Temple of the Dawn

We go back to the Chao Phraya river to, a bit perversely, watch Temple of the Dawn at dusk. We decided to watch the evening spectacle of light from the rooftop bar of the Sala Rattanakosin. As we arrive early, we get the best sits and - waiting for the sunset - we happily drink hectolitres of cocktails, mocktails, and beer.

Wracamy nad rzekę Chao Phraya, by nieco przewrotnie obejrzeć Świątynię Świtu o zmierzchu. Postanowiliśmy obejrzeć cowieczorny spektakl światła z baru na dachu hotelu Sala Rattanakosin. A ponieważ jesteśmy tu dość wcześnie, to mamy najlepsze możliwe miejscówki i - czekając na zachód słońca - radośnie wypijamy hektolitry koktajli (z i bez alkoholu), a Marcin także piwa.

I will not write too much as the pictures will tell the story best, but the sunset was beautiful and quiet, even though the traffic on the river was somewhat insane, and then the sanctuary lights went on and the Arun Temple looked just magnificent.

Nie będę się zbytnio rozpisywać, bo zdjęcia opowiedzą tą historię najlepiej, ale zachód słońca był piękny i spokojny, mimo że ruch na rzece był nieco szalony, a potem zapaliły się światła sanktuarium i świątynia Arun wyglądała po prostu wspaniale.
